EXHIBITION-BUILDING HAS BEGUN

Urs Stahel's concept of creating [7] places that enable intensive dealing with [7] precarious fields of our globalized world is taking shape with the commencement of construction at the participating institutions.

Kunstverein Ludwigshafen is the first to make a start: here, an architecture is currently being set up which, following its completion, is going to provide a 600 m² exhibition space (see image). We are publishing up-to-date information about the progress of the exhibition-building along with interesting glimpses behind the scenes on Facebook.

OUR HOMEPAGE'S "ARTISTS" RUBRIC IS ONLINE

You can now find comprehensive information about the Fotofestival's 50 international photographers and artists on our homepage. The page additionally conveys a full impression of the imagery of the exhibition project [7] Places [7] Precarious Fields. The respective exhibition venues and topic areas are matched with biographical information, links and sample images. The website thus enables associative researching and discovery of the artistic positions taking part.

VIDEO DOCUMENTATION OF THE 6th FOTOFESTIVAL

In a multi-part video documentation the Fotofestival, in co-operation with Norbert Kaiser / artmetropol.tv is showing short episodes all about the work on and behind the scenes of the [7P] exhibition project. Two of the four planned videos have already been made and published:

Urs Stahel is the protagonist of the first episode. The Swiss curator talks about the challenge of playing on 4,000 square metres of exhibition space and explains the meaning of photography exhibitions today, when everyone is a photographer.

The second episode places Jules Spinatsch and the in-situ project at the focus. In parallel with the curatorial concept, the likewise Swiss-origin artist photographs [7] places in the Rhine-Neckar region. In the video portrait he talks about his specific photographic technique and about the constantly recurring surprises that this technique entails.

THE REGISTRATION PERIOD FOR THE PORTFOLIO REVIEW HAS BEEN EXTENDED

Photographers still have time to apply by 31 August in order to secure a place at the portfolio review with experts from the international photography scene!

The Portfolio Review places the topic, "New realities in documentary photography" at the focus. This year once again, outstanding positions will be nominated by the reviewers. Three favourites will be given the opportunity to present their works to a broad public from 16 October until the end of the Festival duration. The exhibition of favourites will take place at Heidelberger FORUM für KUNST.

STUDENT BLOG ON THE FOTOFESTIVAL

A group of Heidelberg-based art history students is devising a blog to accompany the 6th Fotofestival Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg. In the "Art criticism in the digital media" seminar, under the guidance of two culture journalists, they have developed a kind of magazine that delivers rolling info: reviews, interviews, portraits and stories about the artists and their art. www.fotofestivalblog.com
