Together we can do it! A cross-generational afternoon.
Children and grandchildren have lots of imagination and develop great ideas quick as flash. Parents and grandparents have experience and manual skills. First of all, we all have a look at the photographs that are on show at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum as part of the 6th Fotofestival Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum. In the museum studio we then realise our ideas in painterly, printed or sculptural form.

Lecture: For a World without Torture?!
Place: Kunstverein Ludwigshafen
Speaker: Elfi Ciprian, Amnesty International – Schifferstadt local group.

The human rights organisation Amnesty International has been fighting for the abolition of torture for more than 50 years. Torture is banned, permanently and universally. Nevertheless, in the past five years Amnesty has documented torture and mistreatment in 141 states – and no continent is free of torture! Usually it is state security forces that order or approve torture. Amnesty points out abuses, but also shows how one can successfully get involved.

After the lecture Barbara Auer, director of the Kunstverein, will lead a tour of the current exhibition [7.2] Violence and Destruction.

Admission to the lecture and tour is free!

Concert: Jerusalem - Site of two Peaces
Place: KlangForum Heidelberg
admission from 05.30 p.m.

The concert as part of the 17th Enjoy Jazz Festival refers to Jerusalem. For the three monotheist religions, Jerusalem is regarded as a holy city, certainly also a reason why worldly peace in this place leaves much to be desired so far. This intercultural utopia, which uses music to work somewhat against our “media crisis images” of Jerusalem at the moment, has been employing the services of Walter Nußbaum and his ensemble for years.

On the programme 2015: “Couleurs de la cité celeste” by Olivier Messiaen, words recited from Koran, Tora and Vulgate, vocal music of the Renaissance by Thomas Tallis and Thomas Luis de Victoria as well as premieres by Dániel Péter Biró, Sidney Corbett and Ehsan Ebrahimi.

Admission: Advance sales 20 Euro, red. 10 Euro, members 15 Euro

Workshop: Graffiti-Slogans. Spraying for Peace
Place: Kunstverein Ludwigshafen
MON | 19.10.15 TO FR | 23.10.15 | 11.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m.

Graffiti – Slogans. Spraying for Peace. Graffiti has been a familiar part of hip-hop youth culture since the 1970s. Graffiti art is especially ideal for getting a slogan or a certain message out to the people. For example, this course deals with the complex topic of peace. Before the participants work with spray cans themselves, preliminary sketches will be drawn on paper and various styles tried out. After that there will be step-by-step instructions on working with the spray can, and different techniques and the use of different kinds of “caps” will be demonstrated.
To round off, the group’s very own graffiti (anti-violence slogan) will be sprayed onto a large transparency and exhibited at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen.

Bookpresentation: Heidelberger Kunstverein
Place: Heidelberger Kunstverein
mit Johanna Diehl, Thorsten Klapsch und Rudi Meisel

A good photobook is more than the sum of its images. Through image selection and arrangement, text and graphics, paper and binding an autonomous artwork arises – even more: an exhibition limited in neither space nor time, which remains unchanged in its artistic statement.

As part of exhibition [7.7] Communication and Control of the 6th Fotofestival Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg the Heidelberger Kunstverein is inviting visitors to the presentation of three photobooks.

Johanna Diehl talks to Thomas Schirmböck (ZEPHYR – Raum für Fotografie, Mannheim) about her photobook Borgo Romanità Alleanza (Hatje Cantz, 2014). Photographer Rudi Meisel recorded, over a period of ten years, German everyday life to the east and to the west of the Wall. Landleute 1977-1987. Two Germanys (Kehrer Verlag, 2015) is the topic of his conversation with culture journalist Markus Weckesser (ThePhotoBookMuseum, Cologne). In Atomkraft (Edition Panorama, 2012) Thorsten Klapsch uses his camera to record German nuclear power plants and offers an objective view of the atomic energy system. Carl Zillich (IBA, Heidelberg) talks to him about his photobook.

After the book presentation Urs Stahel will deliver a curatorial statement on exhibition [7.7] Communication and Control.
